Easy Indoor Plants You (Hopefully) Won’t Kill

Plants have always been my favorite because it’s a way to bring life into my very neutral space (I can’t do color ok). It’s also a way to be responsible for something without it being a huge deal if it dies 😆

Although I’ve had plants for years, I still aim to get ones that are harder to kill. That’s where this list comes in. Below are hard-to-kill plants that hopefully won’t die on you!

Zz Plant

This is by far the easiest plant I’ve ever had. It’s so cute and looks amazing no matter what. Mine hasn’t browned at all and always looks healthy. I’ve had it in windowless bathrooms for years!

  • Sunlight: low (this is a plant you can easily keep in a room with no windows

  • Water: every other week

Pothos

If I had to choose one favorite plant, it would be a Pothos. They just keep growing and are very low maintenance! I’ve had mine for so many years and one is over 10 feet long now. There are different colors to choose from and it’s also really easy to propagate to make even more plants!

  • Sunlight: low to medium, indirect

  • Water: weekly

Spider Plant

I love the look of this plant and mine has grown so much since this picture. They also make little babies to easily propagate as well! the one on the right has grown from my big one.

  • Sunlight: low to medium, indirect

  • Water: weekly

Parlor Palm

I would think that a palm would be hard to keep alive, but it’s actually really low maintenance and I love the tropical vibes. Here are links to IKEA or The Sill.

  • Sunlight: medium, indirect

  • Water: weekly

Succulents

Succulents are known for being easy to take care of and that’s why they’re so popular. I’ve found that the ones with a harder outside are easier for me to keep alive. The ones known for being the easiest to care for are zebra, burro’s tail, jade, aloe, agave, and snake plant. I personally haven’t been great at keeping them alive because I tend to overwater them, but everyone else seems to be doing well with them😆

  • Sunlight: usually bright and direct

  • Water: about every other week (make sure the soil is dry before watering again)

Fake Plants

If all else fails and you just can’t keep plants alive, just get fake plants. There are some that actually look really real. A hack for larger plants that may be more obvious is to still put real soil in the pot to make it look even more real because the fake soil is usually the easiest way to tell a fake plant from a real one.

Tips:

I’ve had the Planta app for years which tells you when to water each plant based on the plant itself, pot type, closeness to light, etc. and is SO helpful! Once I started having more plants, I really couldn’t keep track of when to water each one so it’s been amazing!

When I go out of town for a longer period of time, I found this trick where you put glasses of water above your plants and put a string (that can take in water) in the glass and on top of your plants soil. I’ve left my plants for a month and it worked!!
